Highway searches

Here you can find the details relevant to highway searches.

As part of the land and property conveyance process, a "Con 29R" form containing set questions for each search site is normally submitted to the district or borough council within which the property is located.

For guidance on district/borough areas and contact details for submittance of CON29R and CON290 please view or download the Location & Land Charges Contact details document from the more information section on this page.

Both forms include questions for us to answer. The district/borough councils will forward these forms to us for completion and we will return them to the originating authority, who then collates the replies and returns them to you.

The above does not apply to Derby City Council which is a Unitary Authority.

The highway questions include:

  • whether highways are adopted or unadopted
  • future adoption proposals
  • proximity to road improvement schemes, including traffic schemes and traffic regulation orders and associated works
  • outstanding notices and compulsory purchase of land.

The new CON290 form contains a new enquiry to us - as from 1 August 2007. This is about common land and village greens. All of which may have an impact on the land or property you are purchasing.

We have a dedicated team who are trained to interpret the highway records and who are in constant contact with those responsible for the proposals, in order that the most up to date information is available on the day the search is received.
