Art of Travel and Road Safety

Schools in Derbyshire were invited to provide artwork based on a mode of travel and artistic style associated with a particular country.

The quality of the pupils work reflects their own skills and that of their teachers who have also been able to expand the topic outside the art curriculum to include work in Geography, Religious Education and IT.

Sustainable travel is an important issue and through school travel planning Derbyshire County Council is promoting alternatives to the car. The calendar illustrates some possible alternatives, although admittedly finding an elephant in Derbyshire might be a little difficult. It’s also important that however you travel you keep safe, and so for each month you will also find a related road safety message. 

We hope you enjoy discovering things about the different modes of travel and the artistic movements on which pupils based their own artwork each month. Maybe you’ll even be inspired to travel that way if you can!
