Smart Rider instructor training

Smart Rider volunteers can come from any part of the school community including teachers, midday supervisors, caretakers and parents.

We are looking for instructors who:

  • are friendly, patient and reliable

  • have good communication and organisational skills

  • have a basic knowledge of cycling and the highway code

  • have the ability to ride a bike - is an advantage but not necessary.

Due to the nature of the work all new instructors are required to undergo a check through the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) (opens in a new window) before attending the instructor training course.

  • If your school is in North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield, Bolsover or the High Peak, your Road Safety Officer is Maurice Rusling 01629 538069.

  • If your school is in South Derbyshire, Erewash, Amber Valley or Derbyshire Dales, your Road Safety Officers are Kimberley Greaves and Selina Blackburn 01629 538066.
