Gold Card terms and conditions

Older people and some disabled people can use their Gold Card to get free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England.

To get your free bus ride simply place your Gold card on the bus card reader in front of the driver. If there's no card reader show the driver your Gold Card - to prove you travel for free.

Gold Cards are valid for free travel, off-peak on local buses anywhere in England. You can also get free travel on the Sheffield Supertram but not on the Nottingham Tram.

You can travel free after 9:30am up to 11pm weekdays, anytime weekends and on bank holidays. If you want to travel before 9:30am or after 11pm then you'll have to pay full fare.

Gold Card holders can use Derbyshire Connect services for free.

You cannot get free bus travel in Wales and Scotland or on long distance express coach services, coach tours, special excursions and on some late night services on Fridays and Saturdays.

Your Gold Card is a smart card containing a microchip. It is important that your card does not become cracked or chipped otherwise your card will not register your journey. If your card does become damaged you should contact your district or borough council to request a replacement. There is a £5 replacement fee for all damaged or lost cards.

If you report your card lost or stolen then this will be placed on a 'hotlist' which will lead to your card being blocked if tried to be used again. Should your card be blocked the operator or driver may withdraw your card at their discretion. If you subsequently find your old pass you should destroy this or return it to us. It's your responsibility to use the most recently issued pass.
