The media can be a powerful thing and can help promote a positive image of young people. We've highlighted some of the ways you can get yourself in local and national newspapers or websites, and if you're really lucky, on local TV or radio.
Charity activities: You can have a lot of fun raising money for charity. Some people choose to run marathons, while others shave off their hair or sit in a bath of cold baked beans! You could get together with your friends and choose a charity to support. Try searching the Charity Commission website (opens in a new window) to find a charity that you would like to raise money for.
Once you've chosen a charity, you then need to think of what you can do to raise money. You could ask people to sponsor you, do a carboot sale or make things which you can sell - the ways to raise money are endless.
Achievements: Your achievements are something to shout about. Perhaps you've been picked to represent the county in a sporting event, have excelled in your school work or have been picked to be part of a big musical event. Don't feel shy about telling the world what you've done - they will be in awe!
If you've done something extraordinary, you might be eligible for nomination for the Derbyshire Young Achievers Awards 2007. Please read our Young Achievers article for more information.
Volunteering: If you volunteer for a local group - whether it be a youth group, a graffiti club or a luncheon club - that's something to shout about. It's a great contribution to your area/community and could make a newsworthy story.
One-off good deeds: If you've done something that's a one-off good deed, such as saving someone's life, you could find yourself in the media if you let them know what you've done. You should be very proud of yourself for performing such good deeds.
If you are planning to or have done something that's newsworthy, read our what the media want page. It tells you what information you need to give to the media for your story to be noticed.
