Y.O.U. Project - School Outreach
Extended Services and the Voluntary, Community and Independent Sector working together - The Youth Opportunities Unlimited Project moves upwards and onwards! Storming ahead with 18 community projects throughout NE Derbyshire the Y.O.U. project has gone from strength to strength over the last two years.
Dronfield Peer Mentoring - July 2007
A Peer Mentoring Project was established in the Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School. Over thirty young people attended the two days training sessions, each 2 hours long, where they covered a variety of modules and took part in lots of fun and interactive exercises run by Y.O.U. project staff. After completion of training and liaison with staff, mentors were carefully matched with a mentee. All mentors are provided with ongoing support and regular visits and contacts with Y.O.U. project staff.
First Aid Accreditation - August 2007
Young people in the Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School, were offered the chance to undergo accredited training in Level 2 First Aid in the Workplace. With support from Millennium Volunteers, training was organised through the Gladys Buxton Adult Education Centre, Dronfield. In total 38 young people attended the training. The training was held over 2 days, each day consisting of learning in a fun practical way. They all passed successfully and certificates were handed out during an assembly at the school.
Developing an Understanding of Volunteering - August 2007
The Y.O.U. Project ran a series of six session during PHSE lessons in Eckington School, working with Year 10 pupils looking at what volunteering meant and how volunteering could benefit them.
The sessions were fun and interactive and pupils played games that challenged assumptions about volunteering. Some of the pupils also worked on ways that they could improve their own communities through volunteering.
Over 100 pupils learnt about the Y.O.U. Project and about volunteering.
