Spectrum youth leader training course
After five months of training, 10 youth leaders from Sinfin Anglican Church in Derby and the Methodist Church and Minors Club in West Hallam, their guests, course tutors and four principal guests, attended an awards ceremony and buffet supper on Monday 8 October 2007 at West Hallam Methodist Church.
The leaders, Rebecca Foulkes, Melanie Pierson, Gillian Fletcher, Marlene Ufton, Judith Sandford, Jamie Thomas, Robert Parkinson, Paul Sandford, Andy Pierson and Alan Ufton, received their certificates from Susanne Rauprich, Chief Executive of the National Council for Voluntary Youth Workers and the Reverend Wes Blakey, Chair of the Nottingham and Derby District of the Methodist Church.
Two other leaders Laura Williamson and Lesley Tooley, also completing the course, could not attend.
Other distinguished guests were Matt Ford, voluntary sector co-ordinator for Derbyshire County Council and Chris Jones, training and development Officer for the Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln and Grimsby districts of the Methodist Church.
Thanks and gratitude were expressed to the youth leaders who not only gave up their own time to working with young people but also volunteer to undertake training as well.
After a number of presentations by the principal guests, and the certificates presentation, everyone enjoyed an excellent buffet supper prepared and served by Christine Sherwood.
The Spectrum course is a Christian, ecumenically tutored and facilitated course covering a diverse range of topics which include training modules on such topics as:
- leadership
- club management
- pastoral care
- faith and spirituality development
- communication
- youth worker support.
This was probably the last course of its type to be run in the country as Spectrum is changing in content and will be more ebased in its presentation and teaching.
