Barnardo's
Councillor Anne Western visited Barnardo's 'Reach Out' which works with young people who are leaving care or who are homeless.
She was warmly welcomed by members of the team and some of the young people.
The young people said that they appreciate the help they get from Barnardo's "It's different having a Barnardo's worker to having a social worker.
"They help me with lots of practical things and help me to make decisions for myself. I know they work closely with social workers but it's not as formal.
"I feel I can talk to my Barnardo's worker more".
Another said, "I come to the Young People's Group here. We do lots of different things and we decide together what activities we're going to do".
The young people and the Barnardo's team all agreed that it would be great if the council could offer work placements for Care Leavers in all their departments, with friendly help and advice, and Councillor Western agreed, saying the council is keen to do this.
The team and young people appreciated the visit and the chance to talk to a councillor.
