Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) induction

Foster carers helping girl with homework All foster carers must demonstrate that they meet the Training, Support and Development (TSD) Standards within twelve months of their approval to foster children and young people.

CWDC launched the Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Carers in May 2007.

The standards are accompanied by a guide for foster carers, a workbook and guidance for managers, supervising social workers and trainers.

From April 2008 all fostering services are expected to be implementing the standard.

At present over 60 carers have completed their CWDC workbook and induction.

Support continues around the county at various group meetings and training events.

Thank you from Ian Johnson

"I am extremely pleased to announce that Derbyshire County Council's fostering service has achieved an outstanding completion figure of 81 per cent, for the CWDC Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Care.

"I know just how much hard work our carers have put in, to complete their workbooks within that time and we should be justifiably proud of what we have achieved. The new National Minimum Standards tell us that all foster carers must finish the course and with the deadline being extended to the end of April, we anticipate a further 12 carers will be completing in that time, taking us up to almost 90 per cent.

"The authority is now  in a much stronger position as a result of this, far ahead of many other fostering services, and I would personally like to thank you for your commitment, resolve and determination."
