Computer scheme
We run a computer scheme for all foster carers approved by the Derbyshire Fostering Service. Find out what you're entitled to and how the scheme works.
All approved foster carers will be entitled to:
A fully installed computer and printer with maintenance and support as well as replacement equipment every five years.
A monthly contribution towards broadband costs, paper and ink.
Access to IT training for carers who require basic level training as described in the Foster Carer Induction Programme.
Access to educational software packages to promote the learning and support of the looked after child.
Requirements and responsibilities of foster carers:
To promote the educational achievement of children in care, by promoting access to educational material on the internet, by assisting the child or young person with research for homework and by encouraging the use of any software recommended by schools.
To monitor the child or young persons use of the computer with the dual purpose of keeping the child safe online and preventing access to abusive or pornographic material.
Communicate electronically with the us - this will include the supervising social worker, finance section, the child's social worker and any other professionals concerned with the child.
To provide a primary email address for all electronic communication with us and notify immediately of any email address changes.
The scheme is only available to foster carers approved by the Derbyshire Fostering Service. Independent Fostering Agency carers with Derbyshire children in placement, or parent with children places at home, are outside of the scope of this scheme.
Telephone the foster carer helpline for maintenance and support on 0844 863 1076. The helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am to 10pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
