Eligibility criteria for services
We use eligibility criteria to ensure that decisions are made fairly.
Our decision about what help and support we can provide either directly or by funding services, including through a personal budget, is based on:
an assessment of social care needs
criteria based on the national policy guidance called "Prioritising need in the content of Putting People First: A whole system approach to eligibility for social care - Guidance on eligibility criteria for Adult Social Care, England 2010 (opens in a new window)".
Our aim is to make sure that we give local people fair and equal access to services. We assess your needs and associated risks within five categories:
- critical
- substantial
- higher moderate
- moderate
- low
To be eligible to receive adult social care services provided by ourselves directly, or funded by us, your eligibility must be assessed at the critical, substantial or higher moderate levels.
If your needs are assessed as moderate or low, you may still be assisted with the provision of advice and information. This will include information about other organisations and services that may be able to provide further assistance.
