Help to live at home

Help to live at home main

Many people need just that extra bit of help to live independently. This may be as a result of illness, a disability or just getting older.

You can find information about receiving help with:

Find out what is available for your personal and practical care, such as help with small household jobs, gardening, home care and how to get items such as handrails and community equipment.

Sometimes living independently in your own home can lead to loneliness and social isolation. A number of voluntary organisations offer befriending services that can provide supportive help in these situations.

Good nutrition is important at any age but many people don't eat properly because they experience problems preparing food or feeding themselves.

In the shopping and meals section you will be able to find information that will help with preparing meals or having meals delivered, or just some help with shopping.

Care at home can be provided by a range of service providers. Care can be arranged and paid for privately or, following an assessment to identify your needs and eligibility you could initially be offered access to the Direct Payment Scheme. You can view or download more information in our Easy Guide to Direct Payments leaflet.

First Contact

The First Contact Scheme is an easy way for people to be put in touch with a wide range of local services simply by using one point of contact.
