Older drivers

Older motorists have a wealth of driving experience and driving offers freedom and independence, but as we get older our health and fitness, including eyesight and reaction times begin to decline.

We are offering our popular 'driving safer for longer' information sessions to Derbyshire residents aged 50 years and older.

The 'driving safer for longer' information session offers attendees a chance to update their driving knowledge. The session aims to support residents to continue driving for as long as they choose, exploring potential difficulties which may affect driving ability along with possible solutions. Themes covered include:

  • hazard perception
  • smart motorways
  • changes to eyesight and hearing
  • driving impairments including the effects of alcohol and medication
  • journey planning
  • vehicle adaptations
  • keeping safe in the vehicle
