Creepy crawly fun at official opening of children's centre

29 June 2009

Insect-themed activities will be part of the fun when Derbyshire County Council’s latest children’s centre opens its doors.

Sandiacre Children’s Centre will officially open at Ladycross Infants School, Victoria Road, on July 16.

And staff have lined-up an action-packed day of fun to be enjoyed by children and their families.

Craft activities for children will take the theme of a ‘Mini-beast extravaganza’ - using The Very Hungry Caterpillar book for inspiration.

Councillor Tracy Critchlow, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People, will officially open the centre.

Councillor Critchlow said: “The open day is a great opportunity for mums, dads, carers, childminders and grandparents to come along and see the fantastic range of services that they can benefit from.

“A lot of hard work is going into making it an entertaining event and I am looking forward to meeting visitors to the centre.”

Staff at Sandiacre Children’s Centre have teamed up with colleagues at Sandiacre Library to provide entertainment for the launch event.

Children’s centres are a one-stop shop bringing vital services for under fives and their families together under one roof.

Sandiacre brings the number of children’s centres operating across the county to 43.

Drop-in sessions at the centres provide information to parents on issues including early education, childcare, family support, and child and family health advice.
