Still time to scoop prize

20 May 2008

There is still time for one lucky person to win a DVD player in a special library prize draw.

Anyone joining one of Derbyshire County Council’s libraries before Saturday, May 31, will be entered into the free prize draw after borrowing any item.

They will also receive a new welcome pack full of information about the services on offer.

The prize draw and welcome pack have been launched to coincide with the National Year of Reading.

The year of events aims to help build a greater national passion for reading for children, families and adult learners.

It also wants to encourage people to read in businesses, homes and communities and provide new opportunities for people to get help and support through schools and libraries.

Events to highlight the National Year of Reading are being held at many county council-run libraries.

Staff are hoping the prize draw will encourage more people to visit their local library and find out what’s on offer.

As well as a choice of hundreds of books and books on CD, the latest CDs, DVDs and computer games are available for adults and younger visitors to borrow.

There’s also the chance to surf the web for free and everyone can now borrow up to 16 items each.

Bob Janes, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for cultural services, said: “The new welcome pack is very helpful to highlight the range of services on offer at our libraries and new members will be surprised at how many different things they can do at libraries these days.

“The added bonus is that if they borrow an item when they join, there is still time to be entered in the prize draw.”
The winner of the DVD player will be announced in June.
