Over 50s invited to forum meetings
30 May 2008
Feeling safe in your community and looking after your health are just two of the issues to be discussed at 50 + Forum events over the next few weeks.
The Long Eaton District 50+ Forum is holding a meeting with the theme `Safety in Your Community’ on Monday, 9 June, starting at 10.15am, with light refreshments from 9.45am.
Presentations by representatives from Derbyshire County Council and Erewash Borough Council will be given at the meeting in the Council Chamber, Long Eaton Town Hall, Derby Road.
Community transport and day trips are on the agenda for discussion at the Golden Days Out event by Ashbourne and District 50+ Forum.
The meeting will take place at Ashbourne Leisure Centre, Station Road, on Friday, 13 June, at 10am until 12.30pm.
Representatives from the county council’s public transport unit and Derbyshire Gold Card scheme will be speaking at the event.
Swadlincote District 50+ Forum is holding an information day, with speakers covering topics based around looking after yourself and your home, on Thursday, 19 June.
The event, being held at Church Gresley Methodist Church, York Road, will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm, with light refreshments from 10am.
Glossop Action for Local Older People is also meeting in June.
Derbyshire County Council’s Trusted Trader scheme and the development of a new Glossop health centre are on the agenda at the meeting on Tuesday, 3 June.
The meeting will take place at Bradbury Community House, Market Street, Glossop, at 2 until 4pm.
Councillor Dave Allen, cabinet member for services for older people, said: “The forums provide a great place for people to meet and exchange thoughts and ideas.
“There is plenty of advice and information available on a wide range of subjects from health and safety to education and crime prevention.”
50+ Forums regularly meet across the county giving members the chance to swap ideas, discuss opinions and views and take action on issues affecting them locally, regionally and nationally.
They have been supported in setting up by Derbyshire County Council’s Better Government for Older People programme, now run by Derbyshire County Council’s Wellbeing Team, which helps them with administration and organising meetings as well as providing financial support.
Free transport to these meetings can be arranged through calling our Wellbeing Team on 01629 532466 or email jo.ellis2@derbyshire.gov.uk or nicola.robinson@derbyshire.gov.uk.
