Derbyshire County Council sets term dates
28 May 2008
Derbyshire County Council has set school term and holiday dates for the 2009/2010 academic year.
The recommended term dates are:
Autumn Terms 2009
Friday 4 September to Friday 23 October
Monday 2 November to Monday 21 December
Spring Terms 2010
Monday 4 January to Friday 12 February
Monday 22 February to Thursday 1 April
Summer Terms 2010
Monday 19 April to Friday 28 May
Monday 7 June to Friday 23 July
Schools also have five training days which they can allocate throughout the year.
Due to the number of authorities which neighbour Derbyshire is not possible to establish a common pattern for school terms and holiday dates.
Derbyshire County Council follows Local Government Association guidelines when setting term dates, but some neighbouring authorities do not and it means holidays are timetabled at different times.
The county council works with Derby City, the neighbouring authority which has the greatest number of pupils living within the county area, to set matching term dates.
Councillor Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for schools, said: “It is important that we set term dates as early as possible so that schools and parents can plan ahead.
“Derbyshire borders 13 other local authorities. In an ideal world we would all work to the same term times to prevent difficulties for parents with children attending schools in more than one local authority area.
“But that is not possible so we work closely with Derby City, the authority with which there is the greatest cross over of pupils.”
Bank Holidays during the 2009/10 academic year are:
- 25 December and 28 December 2009
- 1 January 2010
- 2 April 2010
- 5 April 2010
- 3 May 2010
- 31 May 2010
- 30 August 2010.
