Derbyshire businesses get creative with grants

Small businesses in Derbyshire have been awarded a share of £9,000 as part of a grant scheme to boost the county’s creative economy.
Artists, designers and a photographer are among 19 successful companies to receive the money from the Derbyshire Arts Partnership, supported by the county council.
The Derbyshire Designer Maker Grants offer support to help market and develop the companies with the aim of boosting the county’s creative economy.
Grants of up to £500 are available for a wide range of marketing including new publicity material, advertising and website development.
The successful companies are:
Laura Ellen Bacon, Duffield (£500). An artist who creates sculptures from willow, she will use the money for photographs for publicity material
Studio 61, Lea, near Matlock (£500). The money will be used to print leaflets to publicise the gallery and craft shop which showcases more than 70 Derbyshire and regional artists and designers
Anne Menary, Chesterfield (£300). Making hand-stitched pictures, she will use the money to produce cards and postcards to market her work
Josie Walter, Matlock (£500). Making ceramics, the grant will be used to create marketing materials and pay the fee to attend Hereford Contemporary Fair
Moira Clinch, Matlock (£500). Making ceramics, she will use the money to create marketing materials
Woodturning at Christmas Cottage, Youlgreave (£500). Making wood-turned products, the money will be used to create posters and flyersNoble Interiors, Ashbourne (£260). Specialising in painting murals and children’s furniture, the money will go towards printing 500 brochures
Gilboa Men’s Shirts, Bakewell (£500). Designing exclusive men’s shirts, the grant will be used to advertise in two high-profile magazines
Charles Monkhouse, Middleton-by-Youlgreave (£500). An artist, Charles will use the money for printed publicity
Alysn Midgelow-Marsden, Draycott (£500). Specialising in textiles, the grant will go towards marketing materials
Exile Designs, Long Eaton (£500). Specialising in wooden sculptures, the money will be used to create marketing materials
4D Designs, Ilkeston (£500). Designing ecological and contemporary lighting, the money will be used to take part in a trade fair
Temima Crafts, Ilkeston (£500). Designing and making novelty wooden boxes, the grant will be used to produce a video for exhibitions and shows
Interior Visuals, Whaley Bridge, High Peak (£500).Specialising in lighting, the cash will be used to develop the website and to attend trade shows
Claire Elsworth, Whaley Bridge, High Peak (£500). A textile artist, she will use the money to attend exhibitions
Peak District Products, High Peak (£500). A self-funded organisation of more than 50 professional artists, designers and food producers, the money will be used towards marketing costs for an exhibition in Buxton
Sandra Orme, Harpur Hill, Buxton (£500). An artist specialising in land and seascapes, the money will be used to buy exhibition screens, poles, bases and carriers
Laura Nolan, Coton-in-the-Elms, South Derbyshire (£500). A photographer, she will use the money to develop her website and undertake web training
David Tucker, Ticknall, South Derbyshire (£500). Specialising in metalwork, he will use the money to produce a brochure
Councillor Bob Janes, the county council’s cabinet member for cultural services, said: “We are pleased to be part of this worthwhile project to support and promote Derbyshire’s local talent.
“These grants provide a much-needed boost to small creative companies to enable them to expand and develop by funding vital marketing activity that they might not otherwise be able to afford.”
