Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for cultural services Councillor Bob Janes is urging local people to enjoy the events on offer.

He said: “Help us celebrate the refurbishment by coming along to see what we’ve got on offer.

“Most of the events are free and library members and non-members are welcome. If you become a member on the day, you will be entered into a free prize draw to win a DVD player.”

Anyone joining one of Derbyshire County Council’s libraries before Saturday, May 31, will receive a new welcome pack full of information about the services on offer and will be entered into a free prize draw after borrowing any item.

The prize draw and the new welcome pack have been launched to coincide with the start of the National Year of Reading – a celebration of reading which aims to help build a greater national passion for reading for children, families and adult learners.

Poet laureate River Wolton is penning a verse to mark Bolsover Library’s official re-opening and will be reciting it at 10.30am on Thursday, May 15.

She will be joined by Derbyshire County Council chair Councillor Joyce Sanders and Councillor Bob Janes, the authority’s cabinet member for cultural services. Refreshments will be served.
