£41k for countryside in Chesterfield and Bolsover
22 May 2008
The countryside in Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire and Bolsover is to benefit from £41,000 provided by Derbyshire County Council.
The Three Valleys Countryside Partnership will receive £5,000 from the County Council. The money is to be spent on conservation projects on the Rivers Moss, Drone and Doe Lea in Killamarsh and Eckington areas.
Bolsover Countryside Partnership will get £10,000 from the County Council. The money will be used for environmental improvements across the district, in particular work to bring two grassland meadows, Woollen Meadows and Pleasley Grasslands, back to their former glory.
Groundwork Creswell will receive £11,000 for work managing green spaces in the area. Volunteers will play an active role in this work.
And £15,000 will be spent extending the Five Pits Trail. The work will link the trail with Temple Normanton, Sutton Spring Wood and the former opencast site at Arkwright.
Cabinet member for environmental services, councillor Brian Lucas, said: “I’m delighted that we are able to spend this money improving the countryside and making local places more attractive for people to visit.”
