Raising the roof for readers

31 January 2008

Book lovers in Woodville will notice a frenzy of activity over the next few weeks as their library gets a new roof.

It will be business as usual for library customers however as the building, on Hartshorne Road, will be staying open during the work.

Work will begin on the Derbyshire County Council owned-building from 18 February and will continue until the end of March.

The work, to replace slates and upgrade the roof insulation, will cost around £37,000.

The library will remain open but there will be scaffolding put up around the building and a safe route will be created for the library users.

Derbyshire County Council is committed to providing access to a wide range of services across the county and maintenance work is important in making sure this can continue.

Bob Janes, Derbyshire County Councillor for cultural services, said: “Libraries play a vital part in the community and we do not want people thinking they can’t use the building.

“We want to make sure people know that the library is remaining open during the re-roofing and to bear with us as we carry out the work.”

The library is open Mondays and Fridays 2pm to 5pm and 5.30pm to 7pm.
