Fresh New Look for Library
30 January 2008
A Derbyshire library is being redecorated as part of a £15,000 revamp by Derbyshire County Council.
Dronfield Library will close temporarily for six weeks while the authority carries out essential maintenance works and redecorates.
Work will include repairs to the plasterwork on the ground floor and replacing treads on the High Street library’s central staircase. The ground and first floor areas will also be repainted.
To ensure the safety of staff and the public, the library will close on Monday, February 25 and re-open on Monday, April 7.
But library users won’t have to miss out as they will be able to borrow more items than usual - up to 32 at a time. Borrowers can also renew or reserve books online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/libraries (opens in a new window) or by contacting Call Derbyshire on 08 456 058 058.
Councillor Bob Janes, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for cultural services, said he apologised for any inconvenience and hoped people would bear with the council while the work takes place.
He said: “To ensure the safety of staff and the public it is necessary to close the building and we apologise for any inconvenience.
“This is part of our commitment to improving life for local people and I hope users will make use of our mobile libraries, Call Derbyshire on 08 456 058 058 and website in the meantime.”
TWO-DAY CLOSURE FOR PINXTON LIBRARY
Pinxton Library will be closed for two days next month while it is repainted.
The Kirkstead Road library – which usually opens every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday – will be closed on Tuesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 28, while the work is being done. It will be open as normal on Friday, February 29.
Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for cultural services, Councillor Bob Janes, apologised for any inconvenience.
He said: “It will be a better and brighter place to visit when it’s finished and I hope people will bear with us while the work is carried out.”
Pinxton Library is open on Tuesdays 1.30–5pm, Thursdays 1-5pm and Fridays 10am-1pm and 2–5pm.
