There's a car park on site, which includes three disabled spaces. If you're arriving by bike we have a cycle rack. For anyone travelling by bus or train you can get more information by visiting our public transport pages

Opening hours

  • Weekdays between 9.30am and 5pm
  • Saturdays between 9.30am and 1pm
  • Closed Sundays and bank holidays.

Opening hours (from week beginning 5 June 2017)

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday to Friday: 9.30am - 5pm
  • Last Saturday of the month: 9.30am - 4pm
  • Closed Sundays and Bank Holidays

From June 2017 onwards we we'll be open on the following Saturdays:

  • 24 June 2017
  • 29 July 2017
  • 26 August 2017
  • 29 September 2017
  • 28 October 2017
  • 25 November 2017
  • 30 December 2017

Before you visit

If you want to use a computer or microfilm for looking at newspapers, parish registers, census or GRO indexes, we strongly advise you to book a machine in advance.

For consulting books or archive material, it's not necessary to book a reader's space. If you want to pre-order up to three archival items before you arrive, use our catalogue (opens in a new window) to tell us the document numbers.
