What sort of records do you hold?

Derbyshire Record Office holds original documents created in Derbyshire dating from the Middle Ages to the present day.
Derbyshire Record Office is legally appointed as the place of deposit for public records under the Public Records Act 1958. It is also the diocesan record office for the Diocese of Derby under the Parochial Registers and Records Measure (amended 1992). We publish updates each year summarising all new archives. 

We hold over four miles of original documents. Series include: 

  • Derbyshire parish registers of baptisms, marriages and burials from the 16th century onwards 

  • Registers of baptisms, marriages and burials in nonconformist churches in Derbyshire from the 17th century onwards 

  • Personal and estate papers from major Derbyshire families 

  • Wills and probate records of Derbyshire people from 1858-1961 

  • Cemetery records for most of Derbyshire from the 19th century 

  • Electoral registers for Derbyshire from 1832 

  • Archives of Derbyshire businesses, charities, voluntary groups, etc 

  • Archives of Derbyshire schools 

  • Official archives of Derbyshire from the 16th century 

  • Manuscript and printed plans from the 17th century onwards including:
