I have never been to the Record Office before. Is there anything I should know?

You need proof of identity and address to register as a reader.

You can bring a notebook or notepad or laptop into the Search Room and you need a pencil to make notes. 

Pens cannot be used in the Search Room. 

Other personal items must be put in a locker which is free of charge. Only you will have the key to your locker. 

Mobile phones may not be taken into the Search Room. 

Documents are not on open access but are produced on request at set times during the day. They cannot be ordered after 3.45pm for use on the same day. 

The whole building is a no-smoking zone. 

There are no facilities on site for refreshments, but staff will advise you of the nearest.
