Services for schools and groups

Schools, colleges, universities and adult education groups often need to study the local area. Local Studies libraries can provide advice and study resources for both teachers and students.

Local history societies and other clubs may also want to find out more about Local Studies.

Class and group visits are very welcome but it is important to contact the library beforehand to ensure that your visit will be a success.

Some libraries welcome small groups but are too small for a whole school class. In these cases a librarian may be able to visit you, bringing study materials and explaining their use.

It is sometimes possible for groups to visit outside normal library opening hours.  For example, organisations can book an evening visit to the County Hall Local Studies library.

Talks and presentations on a variety of local themes can be booked by any local organisation. A small fee is normally charged for groups other than schools.

If you want a special visit or talk tailored to the needs of your group please contact your local library or either of the Local Studies libraries at Chesterfield or County Hall.
