Local studies at Bolsover Library
At Bolsover there are books and pamphlets about the local area, covering the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
The collection of copied documents about the town has been culled from a very wide range of sources over many years. It provides a rich hunting ground for people interested in the detail of Bolsover long ago.
There are also copies of a number of unpublished memoirs and histories by local people. A news cuttings file, started in the 1990s, records more recent local history.
A microfiche reader gives access to the set of Derbyshire Trade Directories and census returns on microfiche 1841 to 1901 cover Bolsover, Heath and Sutton cum Duckmanton.
For 1901, only a wider area including Barlborough, Clowne, Cresswell, Whitwell, Elmton, Nether Langwith, Glapwell, Palterton, Pleasley, Shirebrook is available.
A microfilm reader gives access to local newspapers including a partial file of the Derbyshire Times 1886 to 1938 and 1946 to 1950.
There is a good collection of local mapping, ordnance survey at a variety of dates, and geological and other specialised maps too. The library is also proud of an excellent set of around 400 local photographs, many old and interesting, donated by library users over the years.
