Local studies at Ashbourne Library

This library has a small collection of local history relating to the town and surrounding villages.

It also contains some key titles for the Staffordshire Moorlands including the Leek and Moorlands volume of the Victoria County history and Tim Cockin’s Staffordshire Encyclopaedia.

 

There is a microfiche reader for the set of Derbyshire Directories and the census returns which cover Ashbourne and most villages in the southern Derbyshire Dales plus some adjoining Staffordshire places, eg Mayfield, Alstonefield, Ilam, Waterfall for 1891 and 1901 only. 

A microfilm reader is available for Ashbourne’s historic local newspaper, The Ashbourne News, later known as the Ashbourne News Telegraph.  

The library has a small collection of local photographs of the town and surrounding area.
