You can consult all the most important printed books about the county in the library. We also have most village and town histories, old and new.Books
We have a wide range of books about Derbyshire industries, natural history, geography, transport, archaeology and architecture. We also collect poetry and fiction inspired by the county.We have a good general collection on English local history. This puts local history into its wider, national context. We also have books to assist the student with problems such as reading old handwriting or the meaning of old words.
There is a very substantial collection of family history material, local, national and international.
We keep many trade directories for Derbyshire and surrounding counties. Some are in original form and there is also a fuller Derbyshire set on microfiche dating from 1781 to 1977.
Periodicals
In this library you can use all the main county titles and society publications. They cover many aspects of Derbyshire life, local and family history and the local scene. Some periodicals of national significance are included to provide background information, for example:
