Family history resources

Microfilm users

There are a lot different materials useful to family historians. You will find many of these in the Derbyshire Local Studies Library, County Hall, Matlock.

This library collects all material on Derbyshire and a selection of books and indexes for surrounding counties. We also provide major national and international family history research materials.

When you visit the library we will be pleased to explain to you how these materials could help you. We will show you how to find and use them. We will also show you how to use the Library catalogue and index. This will help you to discover the full range of research tools available to you.

Some material is on microfilm and you will need to pre-book a machine to use it. Everything else can be consulted without appointment during normal opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and the second Saturday morning of each month 9am to 12.30pm.
