"Volunteering at the library was interesting and … I felt I contributed a lot to running the reading scheme. I did various tasks and the staff and the children were both a pleasure to work with. I recommend volunteering at the library and I would definitely do it again!" S Gray, Summer Reading Challenge volunteer.
Volunteering can be regular or ad hoc. Many of our volunteers undertake a variety of different volunteering opportunities with us, although some choose to take on one specific role.
What we are looking for
We are looking for volunteers who offer commitment and enthusiasm. As most roles are customer facing, communication skills and an interest in working with the public are also important. As many of our roles involve volunteering with children or vulnerable adults, CRB clearance is generally required.
What we offer
We offer full support to our volunteers, and the opportunity to get involved in a real variety of things. Our volunteers often help us to provide services that have a big impact on people's lives, and they are highly valued.

Please note: all roles are not available in libraries all the time − we recruit volunteers as and when the role is required.
