Summer Reading Challenge

Staveley summer reading challenge medal ceremony

The Big Friendly Read has now finished.

We've had a splendiferous year with 9,392 young people taking part across 47 libraries in Derbyshire. Nearly 5,586 children completed the challenge and were awarded their certificate and medal.

There were lots of innovative activities with wonderful displays, larger than life Dahl characters, dream jars and more, adorning libraries, and we've even had a robotic revolution. Thanks to our partners for their help in delivering these. Our young volunteers have also helped make it a rewarding experience for those taking part.

Comments from families about the challenge included:

"This prompted us to join the library… Looked forward to reading a different book every night."

"Enjoyed reading the books together as a family and visiting the library."

"I think the Summer Reading Challenge was fabulous."

"It prompted them to read more than they usually would, and actually finish all the books."

"I really enjoyed the Big Friendly Read and I can't wait for the next Summer Reading Challenge."

Plans are already underway for a 2017 national reading challenge so look out for more information and make a date to join us then.
