Book promotions and events

There are special book promotions in every library in Derbyshire throughout the year.

These include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and books on tape and CD.

Just a few of the many recent promotions have included:

  • Voices of World War Two
  • Laughter Lines - a fun comedy selection
  • Black Bytes, a collection by young Black British writers
  • Male Order; Graphic Novels
  • First Choice, a selection of popular quick reads.

Every year there are special promotions for book awards such as:

  • Orange prize - awarded annually to a woman writer. From April to June, two different Derbyshire libraries have special displays and copies of the books on both long and short lists. The host libraries usually hold several events when readers have the opportunity to get together and discuss the long and short listed novels, and perhaps vote for their favourite.
  • Man Booker Prize - awarded annually in the autumn, and the shortlist promoted in Derbyshire libraries.

As well as these special projects, there is a continuous programme of promotional events for readers of all ages throughout the year to celebrate special events such as National Poetry Day, World Book Day and promotions to tie in with popular TV series, such as Richard and Judy's Book Club.

Over the next three years we will be working with BBC RaW Campaign in all our libraries. Reading and Writing is the BBC's new literacy campaign encouraging people to read more and write better. Look out for RaW promotional material, book collections, quizzes and events.
