Reader development

A range of services and resources are available to readers as part of Derbyshire Libraries' commitment to Reader Development.

This commitment is to:

  • Promote the enjoyment of books and reading.
  • Widen choices for readers.
  • Encourage readers to try different types of books.
  • Enable readers to link up with each other.

In practice this means that Derbyshire Libraries offer readers:

  • Access to a reader group network throughout the county via the Book Chat scheme.
  • A chance to meet other readers through reading groups, author events or special readers' events.
  • Newsletter, an opportunity to exchange ideas about books through reading groups, book chains, and readers' noticeboards.
  • A range of book promotions and events throughout the year in libraries across the county.
  • An opportunity to suggest books for the Book Chat list.
  • Consultation about events, activities and feedback on services for readers and reader groups.

This work is outlined in a three year Reader Development Strategy 2005/2008. Our Readers' Charter demonstrates our commitment to supporting readers.  These documents are available in all Derbyshire Libraries or available to download in Portable Document Format (PDF) in the more information section below.
