Activities and events at Shipley Country Park

Big Draw Event

We organise a programme of events throughout the year. We're also able to support external organisations who wish to organise their own events at the park.


There are many other activities and events in Shipley Country Park that are organised by groups such as Heanor Running Club, Guide Dogs for the Blind (opens in a new window), Horse Endurance GB, schools and local scout and guide groups.

  • Adults: £3.20
  • Children and concessions: £1.60 (age 16 years and under)
  • Under fives: Free
  • Family ticket (two adults and three children): £8.

Special events

Lakeside Festival

Sunday 2 July 2017 between 12pm and 4pm.

Join the Friends of Kirk Hallam Lake and the Countryside Service for this summer festival. The Lakeside Festival highlights the many aspects of the rich wildlife of the site, and also includes other invited organisations with similar aims to help animals, wildlife and the natural world. Stalls and small fair rides too.

Love Parks Week

Friday 14 July to Sunday 23 July 2017.

There's lots going on during this week in Shipley Country Park. Join in and show your love for the park!

  • Friday 14 July 2017: Love Parks photo competition. Free.

  • Saturday 15 July 2017: Parkrun at 9am. Free event organised by Parkrun volunteers.

  • Sunday 16 July 2017: Summer Fun Day in aid of, and organised by, Guide Dogs for the Blind. Free event.

  • Monday 17 July 2017: Be a Dragonfly Spotter! Free spotter sheet available at the visitor centre. Self-led activity, 11am-4pm.

  • Tuesday 18 July 2017: 10am-12pm. Free walk guided led by Shipley Bird Watchers.

  • Tuesday 18 July 2017, 2-4pm. Free guided walk led by Heanor Walking Group.

  • Wednesday 19 July 2017: Be a bug hunter! Free spotter sheet available at the visitor centre. Self-led activity, 11am-4pm.

  • Thursday 20 July 2017: Be a Fab Flower Spotter! Free spotter sheet available at the visitor centre. Self-led activity, 11am-4pm.

  • Friday 21 July 2017: Spot the Signs of Summer! Free spotter sheet available at the visitor centre. Self-led activity, 11am-4pm.

  • Saturday 22 July 2017: Moth trapping session. Meet at the visitor centre at 8pm. Free event organised by Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Entomological Society (DaNES) and the Amateur Entomological Society.

  • Sunday 23 July 2017: Insect show, 11am-4pm, plus a guided butterfly walk on offer. Organised by DaNES.

  • Sunday 23 July 2017 and throughout the school holidays: School's Out! 11am-3.30pm. A different self-led trail on offer each week. Cost £1 per child.

Summer Fun Day in aid of Guide Dogs

Sunday 16 July 2017 between 10am and 4pm.

Support Guide Dogs in your local area and enjoy a great day out for all the family at Shipley Country Park. With demonstrations of dog agility, heel work to music and dog cross-country running. There'll also be entertainers and various stalls selling a range of goods, crafts and treats.

The Big Derbyshire Food Festival

Sunday 3 September 2017 between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

Fantastic Foodie Day out for all the family at Shipley Country Park. Delicious Street Food stalls, a fabulous Craft Marquee with lots of unique gifts for sale, children's entertainment and live music throughout the day.

Autumn Footprints

Autumn Footprints is the Amber Valley and Erewash Walking Festival. Each year, during September, a 16 day festival takes places offering a wide range of guided walks.

Volunteering

We have a range of opportunities for carrying out voluntary work.

Organising your own event

Shipley Country Park can be used for a wide range of activities.

Groups using the park for events are encouraged to be self-led, and the rangers at Shipley Country Park are available to offer support and advice.
