Make the most of a trip to Buxton by visiting the Museum and Art Gallery.  


Opening times

  • Monday: Closed (except summer Bank Holidays)
  • Tuesday to Friday: 9.30am to 5.30pm
  • Saturday: 9.30am to 5pm
  • Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter to 30 September: 10.30am to 5pm
  • Last admission to the upstairs galleries is 15 minutes before closing time.

We have six computers with free access to the Internet

Access for disabled people

There are facilities for people with disabilities including toilet, ramps and a chairlift. Staff can help.

Parking

There is free short term (40 minutes) parking on the road outside the museum. The Slopes and the Market Place pay-and-display car parks are a few minutes walk from the museum.

Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery

The Friends hold monthly talks about art, archaeology, geology and local history and organise visits to places of interest. New Friends are always welcome - please visit our Friends page for more information.

Refreshments

We do not serve refreshments but there are many cafes and restaurants within a short distance of the museum.

Museum shop

We stock colourful minerals, fascinating fossils and gift items made from decorative stones as well as local history and special interest books. Many of the art exhibitions include works for sale.

Enquiry services

We deal with enquiries and identifications relating to geological, archaeological, art and local history objects. We cannot give valuations.
