Claire de Ruiter
16 August to 1 November 2008
Special view: Saturday 20 September, 2pm
Meet the Artist: Saturday 18 October, 2 to 4pm
From the outset Claire de Ruiter viewed her latest project as the opportunity to extend and define her practice as a felt maker.
Based on the physical journey from Rainow to Buxton via the infamous Cat and Fiddle road (A537) she has produced a personal reflection of the area.
By working at various locations over the past ten months people who live, work and visit the area have been encouraged to contribute to this ever-evolving visual record.
Themes of how hill-farming has influenced the landscape and the changes in the wool industry are explored in her work, which links intrinsically to a strong sense of place through people and environment.
