Learning and education
Learning and education opportunities at Buxton Museum.
Schools are welcome to visit us and are encouraged to take part in our 'Time Detectives', 'Romans in Derbyshire', 'Art Explorers' and 'Arresting Solutions' activities.
These can be delivered to KS 1, 2, and 3.
Children learn by handling real objects, observation, recording, and drawing, working in pairs, groups and as a class. Booking is essential, and there is a small charge:
- Derbyshire schools (or staying in Derbyshire overnight): £1 per child
- Non-Derbyshire school: £2 per child
- All accompanying adults: free
Payment is made on the day of your visit. Cheques should be made payable to Derbyshire County Council. We accept debit or credit cards.
All enquiries and bookings should be made by contacting us
The museum is an excellent place to enjoy your own programme of life long learning, or to join one of the occasional classes and courses that are organised by ourselves and other organisations.
We run a range of family workshops throughout the year, including for National Archaeology days and at Christmas.
Often there is no charge for these events, occasionally a minimal charge is levied. Please contact the museum for details.
