Libraries and heritage

Derbyshire County Council operates 46 branch libraries and 13 mobile libraries for anyone who lives, works or studies in the area. The Libraries and Heritage department also operates a school library service, library services for the housebound, local studies, and a books for babies scheme.

Historical Archives

Derbyshire Record Office holds a wide range of historical  archives dating from the 12th to the 21st centuries. Some archives are owned by or relate to the County Council and its predecessors and are included within this Scheme. Many other archives are on deposit  from a variety of organisations and individuals and may also be available under current arrangements for access. The Derbyshire Record Office Search Room is open to the public. Records can be consulted free of charge in the Search Room.
