Finding information

A few tips to help you find information on our website quickly and easily.

Headings

We have tried to make sure the content on this site is consistent throughout and as part of this we encourage the use of headings to help you scroll through a page and find the relevant piece of information.

Descriptive headings are usually found on pages with a lot of content. Where possible we have broken down long pages into a number of pages so you can use the navigation to quickly find the information you require.

Using your browser

Your browser may be able to help you search for information on a page of this, or another, website.

For example, you can ask Internet Explorer to search for a word or phrase on a website page and it will skip to it, if it is found.

To use this feature in Internet Explorer:

  • Go to Edit on the toolbar of the browser window.
  • Select the Find (on this page) option.
  • In the pop up box fill in the word or short phrase you wish to find on the page and choose from the other searching options available.
  • Clicking the Find Next button will start Internet Explorer looking for a match to your word or phrase on the website you are on.

Search

If you are not sure where the information you are looking for is on the website you can use the Search feature. You will find the Site Search box on the left of the screen and can search the whole site or the section you are in for results.

The search will show relevant pages of information on our website and also documents related to your search query.

You can sort the results by relevance to the words you typed in or by the date on which they were added to the website.

On some searches we will also show recommended links at the top of the results. This highlights pages people are commonly looking for with the words you have used in the search box.

Your right to information

Under the Freedom of Information act you are now able to request information from the council. This website is intended to help widen the amount and type of information freely available to you.

You may find it useful to browse our publication scheme (this link takes you to another page on our website and will open in this browser window) as this will help to guide you to the correct area of the website or provide details of who to contact at the council for more information.
