Ways we waste energy
There are many things we do which waste energy. For example:
- leaving lights on in the home
- switching on the washing machine or the dishwasher before they are full
- nipping down to the local shops in the car
- driving the children to school
- leaving taps running or dripping
- putting six mugs worth of water in the kettle when you only need one
- using incandescent bulbs when low energy bulbs could be used
- wasting food
- leaving the central heating on when the temperature outside warms up
- using the tumble drier when there's a washing line and a dry day outside
- leaving mobile phone chargers plugged in when not in use.
So, some climate change is being brought about by lots of people doing little things which emit carbon. In the same way lots of people doing little things can cut these unnecessary emissions.
