Carbon emissions - what we are emitting

Per capita carbon emissions and Greenhouse Gas Emissions information

Per capita carbon emissions

Each year the government releases 'per capita' carbon emissions data for each local authority area, this is currently released with a two year time lag.

Data for 2008 shows per capita carbon emissions of 7.7 tonnes in Derbyshire. This is a reduction of per capita emissions by 7.6 per cent between 2005 and 2008.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions 2009

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has estimated that emissions of carbon dioxide reduced by 9.8 per cent across the UK in 2009, with overall output of a group of six greenhouse gases falling 8.6 per cent from 2008 levels.

DECC estimates that key factors in this reduction of greenhouse gas emissions were a significant fall in energy consumption during the economic downturn and a switch from coal to nuclear power for electricity generation.
