Climate and causes

The first step towards tackling climate change is to make sure we all understand what the challenge is. Within this section, we aim to explain what is meant by the climate, greenhouse gases and the causes of climate change

Government research in the UK shows that while people believe climate change is happening, few understand what is actually causing it.

Most people in the UK think that climate change:

  • is confusing – they can't see how it relates to them
  • won't affect them personally
  • is a problem for the future, not now
  • can't be affected by their individual actions, because the problem is so big.

The results of the third Public Attitudes to Climate Change survey is split into regions. The one covering the East Midlands can be found on the Climate Challenge (opens in a new window) wesbite.
