Household waste recycling centres
Find out the locations, opening times and general information for all our household waste recycling centres.
We currently provide nine household waste recycling centres situated at the following locations:
What are the recycling centres for?
The centres are for any items of waste from your own house which may be too large or bulky to be taken by your normal kerbside waste collection. There is no charge for disposing of your waste at these centres.
Opening times
All centres are open from 8.30am to 6pm daily.
The only days the centres are closed are Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
What happens to the waste?
All waste delivered to our centres is separated and sorted. This makes sure that as much of the waste as possible goes for reuse. Reusing items is the best way environmentally for dealing with waste before recycling and composting. Items for reuse may go for resale through a variety of outlets including charities and other markets. Finally waste which can't be reused or recycled/composted goes for disposal.
If you have any concerns about your waste being treated in this way, please speak to one of the site attendants who will deal conscientiously with any items of a personal nature.
Using the recycling centres
If you need a hand unloading an item from your vehicle please ask a site attendant who will be happy to help.
For your own safety please make sure you wear appropriate footwear and also gloves if you are handling glass or sharp objects.
Vehicle access
Cars and small vans up to 3.5 tonne gross vehicle weight (that is standard Ford Transit size or equivalent), and trailers less than two metres in length are allowed on site.
You do not need a permit to enter any of our sites.
Height barriers may be in operation to keep trade vehicles out.
Waste delivered in a vehicle other that a private car or trailer may be queried on the suspicion that it is trade waste.
Soil improver
You can now buy bags of garden soil improver at all our centres.
The soil improver costs £2 (including VAT) for a 50 litre bag. The material meets the Publicly Available Specification 100 (BSI PAS 100) standard for composted materials.
