Go green

Nappy Mountain

It's greener to go real.

Concerned about how much rubbish is produced by using disposable nappies?

Cut your household rubbish by up to half and help the environment by choosing real nappies.

Eight million disposable nappies are thrown away every day in the UK and mostly go to landfill.

In Derbyshire it is estimated that around 12,000 tonnes of nappy waste is disposed of every year, costing us over £800,000 in disposal costs.

Follow the top tips below to make your real nappies greener.

  1. Wash Nappies at 40C or 60C- do not boil wash
  2. Use A-rated appliances to reduce energy and water use
  3. Don't use fabric conditioner as it reduces absorbency
  4. Use eco-friendly washing powders
  5. Try potty training early around two years of age
  6. Use real nappies for more than one child
  7. Buy second hand nappies where possible
  8. Use organic (non-bleached) products
  9. Don't iron nappies
