In Derbyshire it is estimated that around 12,000 tonnes of nappy waste is disposed of every year, costing us over £800,000 in disposal costs.
Follow the top tips below to make your real nappies greener.
- Wash Nappies at 40C or 60C- do not boil wash
- Use A-rated appliances to reduce energy and water use
- Don't use fabric conditioner as it reduces absorbency
- Use eco-friendly washing powders
- Try potty training early around two years of age
- Use real nappies for more than one child
- Buy second hand nappies where possible
- Use organic (non-bleached) products
- Don't iron nappies
