Hazardous Household Waste

Find out how householders can dispose of hazardous waste.

Small quantities of hazardous household waste such as pesticides, mercury and petrol can be taken to one of our Household Waste Recycling Centres (maximum of 5 litres or 5 kg).

If you have a larger household quantity of this type of waste or you can’t take it to a Recycling Centre we offer a collection service free of charge.

Waste from farms, building renovations or left on your property by building contractors can't be accepted for collection on this free scheme.

Drums over 25 litres are not considered to be household waste.

To arrange a collection just call the following number.

We will need as much information about the items to be collected as you can give us including:

  • any brand names.

  • how many containers you have.

  • the size of the containers.

  • the type of container, for example, a plastic bottle or tin can.

Collections usually take place once every two months.

We will send you a letter confirming the date approximately two weeks before our contractor calls.
