Derby Furniture Project

Derby Furniture Project accepts donations of good quality furniture and items for re-use from Derby and areas as far out as Belper, Turnditch, Brailsford, Melbourne, Hilton, Etwall and Draycott.

Derby Furniture Project accepts unwanted furniture and items which are in good condition and suitable for reuse. Furniture and large items can be collected. A voluntary donation is requested to help cover transport costs.

The project accepts the following items:

  • household furniture, including upholstered furniture, beds or mattresses with fire retardant safety labels

  • large electrical items, including fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble driers and electric cookers

  • clothing and bedding.

The project does not accept:

  • gas appliances

  • any upholstered furniture or mattresses without fire retardant safety labels

  • televisions, radios and music systems.

Furniture can be donated directly to the project as well as being collected. Please call 01332 291121 to check whether your furniture or items are suitable for reuse.

Donated goods are generally not available for resale to the general public, only to those referred by Social Care. However, once a month on a Saturday the Project is now open for members of the public to buy items. Please contact the project for further details.

What to do if your furniture isn't suitable for re-use

If you think your unwanted furniture is not suitable for reuse, you can take it to any of our Household Waste Recycling Centres for disposal free of charge.

Alternatively your local district council will provide a bulky household waste collection service under which they will collect old furniture from your property, they may make a charge for this.
