Sign up to Derbyshire EcoChallenge and you'll get emails helping you to save money and live a greener life.
We've teamed up with environmental charity Global Action Plan to give you simple tips via email over six months on cutting bills and helping the environment. The initiative is called the EcoChallenge.
Each month will have a different theme and we'd like you to tell us which actions you're already doing and which new ones you'd like to try.
Anyone signing up before the end of October will be entered a prize draw to win an energy monitor, worth £100, designed to help you cut your bills. The EDF Eco Manager monitors the electricity used by your whole house − plus the use at three designated plug sockets.
You can even suggest your own top tips for other people to have a go at.
You'll have the satisfaction knowing that you're taking part with people right across Derbyshire and we'll give feedback on what other people are doing. We'll even be offering small prizes for the best tips we receive.
To sign up or for more information contact derbyshire@globalactionplan.org.uk.
Themes include:
- water
- energy
- food
- rubbish and recycling.
A little more info
We know from experience that people find it easier to make changes when they're part of something bigger and aware that other people are making changes too.
You'll receive two emails a month − one with a list of suggested things to do and a second to check how things are going and ask for your ideas on the next topic, if you have any.
Some of the tips may be new to you; others may be ones that you've been meaning to do for a while. A lot of people find the emails give them motivation for getting things done.
For people who are keen to take even more action in their local community, we (alongside Global Action Plan) can also provide something extra called Eco Teams.
Get training and support to spread the word and take action on waste in your community − on food, water and energy for example − and measure your progress.
email derbyshire@globalactionplan.org.uk for more information.
The challenge will be running between now and April 2012 but you can join at any time.
All information (including previous challenge topics) can be found on the Derbyshire Eco Challenge (opens in a new window) website.
Entry is completely free and you can opt out of the challenge at any time.
Derbyshire EcoChallenge is run by Global Action Plan and Derbyshire County Council.
