Abandoned vehicles

Abandoned vehicles can cause a public nuisance, are an eyesore and can be a danger to other road users - find out who to report abandoned vehicles to on this page.
Abandoned car

If you have spotted an abandoned vehicle please report it to the district council who cover the area where it is.

The costs of removal, storage and final disposal are shared between the district or borough council and us.

The vehicle will be removed if it is causing a public nuisance, is untaxed or if it has not been removed by the owner after a notice of removal has been placed on the vehicle.

The owner has a certain amount of time to remove the vehicle once the notice has been given.

You can find the contact details for district councils in Derbyshire in the Your Council section of the website or you can use our A-Z (opens in a new window) to find out more from the relevant council.

Untaxed vehicles on the public highway can also be reported to the DVLA hotline on 08000 325202 or by visiting their website and filling in the online form - you can find the link below.
