1APP logo

1APP is the name given to the new national standard planning application forms for waste and county developments which will be introduced from 6 April 2008.  There is no date yet to introduce a new national application form for mineral developments so we will continue to use and adapt our existing minerals application form.

For more information about 1APP please go to the National Planning Portal (opens in a new window).

Planning for future development in Derbyshire and dealing with planning applications is undertaken by a number of different councils and which council deals with the aspect of planning that you are interested in will depend on where you live.

Here is a brief summary of what each council is responsible for:

We deal with minerals and waste planning both in terms of preparing plans and dealing with planning applications. We also deal with applications for our own development and prepare the Structure Plan for the county. We are also involved in preparing the Regional Spatial Strategy.

We are consulted on planning applications where there are implications for the road network, in particular where a new access is to be formed or where there will be an increase in vehicular traffic at an existing access. Visit the Highways Development Control part of this website for more information.

The Local Transport Plan is a planning document for transport which provides a framework to co-ordinate the local delivery of integrated transport and seeks to improve our transport system and the quality of people’s lives.

We do not normally have any planning responsibilities within the Peak District National Park or Derby City which are separate planning authorities.

The East Midlands Regional Assembly deals with strategic planning issues including responsibility for the preparation of the Regional Spatial Strategy.

The district and borough councils within the county, but outside the National Park deal, with local planning policy and with the majority of planning applications for housing, commercial, industry, shopping and leisure development.

The district and borough councils are also responsible for the identification and enforcement of Conservation Areas, and the administration of Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) and trees within conservation areas, and associated tree felling and tree maintenance.

For further details about these councils please visit their websites via the links in the related links section on this page.

We have a multi disciplinary team of environmental specialists which advises the county and other councils on planning issues. The particular topics they deal with includes:

  • Archaeology
  • historic buildings
  • conservation areas
  • urban design
  • landscape design
  • ecology.

Visit the Conservation and Design part of this website for more information.
